It is an absolute honour to be receiving Mortlock Shield Life Membership this year. I had heard of Mortlock when we first got to Port Lincoln 27 years ago & it was always something that I wanted to be involved with. When playing football at any level you always want to test yourself against the best & I was very keen to play against other EP footballers. It also enabled me to play in the EP side at the Country Championships that year. We won that carnival & it remains one of my favorite football memories.
I have been able to perform most roles over 20 odd years, from playing & coaching, to selector & water boy. It has been a pleasure & privilege to do so and to form the friendships that I have over that time will be something that I always cherish. To be forever linked to the tradition & history of Mortlock, alongside some of the legendary names of Eyre Peninsula football is something that I am truly humbled by.
Best of luck to all those involved in this year’s Carnival.
