Mortlock Shield 2024
The Norwood Football Club’s is committed to supporting the Mortlock Shield and takes immense pride in being a strong supporter and partner. It is a cherished football carnival that unites the entire Eyre Peninsula football community.
This traditional event not only showcases football talent from across the region but also provides an opportunity for players to renew old friendships and still be competitive. For players, coaches, and umpires, the Mortlock Shield represents an opportunity to showcase their skills, compete fiercely, and create lasting memories. Beyond the field, the Mortlock Shield fosters community spirit. Families, friends, and supporters gather to cheer for their local teams, reinforcing the bonds that tie the Eyre Peninsula together.
The U/15 Norwood Cup is a thrilling platform for young men to demonstrate their skills in a fiercely competitive competition. These aspiring players aim to follow in the footsteps of successful SANFL (South Australian National Football League) and AFL (Australian Football League) stars who have emerged from the Eyre Peninsula. Notably, several young talents from the region have already made their mark while representing the Norwood Football Club. Among them are Jacob Kennerley, Henry Nelligan, Cam Taheny, Jayden Gale, and Tristan Binder, all who have contributed as regular team members.
In a highlight from earlier this year, the Norwood Football Club had the privilege of hosting a home-and-away match against West Adelaide in Port Lincoln. The event was a spectacular display of football, drawing enthusiastic support from both locals and local businesses. We aim to continue to have a league match played in the Eyre Peninsula each year and currently looking at the next three-year outlook. The Norwood Football also recognise its connection to the Eyre Peninsula with a match day at Norwood Oval committed to recognising our partnership with the region. The EP round match provides a great opportunity for us to show case the EP, our connection to the EP and celebrate its people, clubs and leagues. This years round will be held August 16th and we welcome all clubs and local businesses to utilise the event and great show case for the region.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the officials, players, coaches and support staff, that make this Football carnival such a wonderful celebration of our sport and the local community.
